Vivo X60 – Impressive cameras, good battery life and fast charging

Similarly, Vivo has partnered with Zeiss for its X60 series for the first time. Vivo has been trying to improve its imaging capabilities for a while now, with last year’s X50 series (review) being an unexpected bundle. Thanks to this new partnership with Zeiss, Vivo is making sure we are clearly and truly aware of the camera prowess of the X50 series successors from the very beginning. The higher-end X60 Pro and X60 Pro + have gone through our review process, and now it’s time to review the most affordable product in the range – the Vivo X60. I’ve been using it for almost a week to bring you the Vivo X60 review. Without any further advice, let’s dive into.

Verdict

One thing that’s clear about the X60 is that you shouldn’t consider it from its lens as a Vivo smartphone. The reason is very simple; The X60 trio looks very classy from other products from the brand’s pens. The base model in the line – the Vivo X60 – has an attractive design, powerful hardware, an impressive camera and a battery that can’t be dropped … all at an attractive price point, top killer at Rs 37,999.

That doesn’t mean the Vivo X60 doesn’t have any flaws. But if you’re looking for a flagship smartphone capable in the sub-Rs 40k segment then the Vivo X60 can’t be overlooked.

The lowdown

We reviewed the more complete brothers of the Vivo X60, and therefore, we wouldn’t want to repeat the same points. In fact, if you look at the specs sheet of the Vivo X60 and X60 Pro, you’ll notice that the handsets are strangely similar. Hence, I will focus on general attributes briefly, then talk about the X60’s specific distinguishing elements.

From the outside, both the Vivo X60 and X60 Pro are twins. And that means the X60 instantly grabs your attention with its unique gradient finish. We’ve seen a sizable percentage of phones with gradient patterns, but Vivo was able to make the X60’s panel look quite appealing. Available in Midnight Black and Shimmer Blue, I’ve gotten the second one, and it’s an instant chat with anyone who keeps an eye on it.

Camera of Vivo X60

One of the biggest differences between the Vivo X60 and X60 Pro is the aperture of the main camera. While both smartphones come with triple-camera clusters with a 48MP shooter at the front, the X60’s snapper has an aperture of f / 1.79 (compared to f / 1.48 on the X60 Pro). However, aside from the size of the opening, the sensors are all the same in size and pixel size. The other two sensors are similar too – a 13MP wide-angle camera, plus a 13MP telephoto camera that offers 2x optical zoom and doubles as a depth camera. At the front, both phones feature 32MP selfie lenses.

In terms of quality, Vivo X60 meets all lighting conditions. Daytime photos capture an amazing level of detail, and color reproduction is also very pleasant. Close-ups and portraits are also impressive, while photos taken in low light will control noise. Of course, you get AI and night mode along with many other options in the user-friendly camera app to help you capture the best scene. I find AI to be aggressive in some situations, but it works well in most situations. Night mode is also quite feasible, and there’s also a Super Moon mode if you want to capture the moon. Speaking of night mode, I like the fact that the smartphone allows you to use this feature with the wide-angle camera. You can even take panoramas using the night mode.

Competition

The Vivo X60 is already priced at Rs 37,999, which means it’s higher than some solid offerings in the segment under Rs 40k.

Vivo X60 and OnePlus 9R
Vivo X60’s biggest rival is the OnePlus 9R (review). While the brand may have left the affordable flagship space empty with the newly launched OnePlus 9 (review) and OnePlus 9 Pro (review), they’ve tasked the OnePlus 9R to protect that territory. Ultimately, the OnePlus 9R appears to be a loaded product, and it almost matches the Vivo X60. So the choice between the two depends on personal preference as the price difference is also just Rs 3k.
